Health ministry mission statement and responsibilities

In response to God’s command for us to love and care for one another, the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church health ministry committee supports and partners with the Parish Nurse in its mission to promote spiritual, emotional and physical well-being through its connection with the church and community. The health ministry committee’s mission will be achieved through spiritual support, educational programs and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.

The following are typical responsibilities of the Health Ministry Committee:

  • spiritual support
  • educational programs
  • promotion of healthy lifestyles
  • promotion of disease prevention and health maintenance

Prayer shawl ministry

Prayer shawls are available for any members of Good Shepherd. Church members can also request a prayer shawl for family or friends who are not members. We are blessed with many talented knitters and crocheters who have created a variety of beautiful shawls for those needing God’s comfort. Please contact Kristen McCordick, Greta Magenis or one of the pastors to request a prayer shawl.

Five Wishes Program

The Five Wishes document helps you express how you want to be treated if you are seriously ill and unable to speak for yourself. It is unique among all other living will and health agent forms because it looks to all of a person’s needs: medical, personal, emotional and spiritual. Copies of this document are available on the kiosk in the church lobby as well as in the parish nurse office. For more information, visit the website www.agingwithdignity.org
